Come to the Châtel fortress, where you will be welcomed at the Guyot d?Avilley center, built on the gatehouse of a fortress steeped in five centuries of history.
If you wish, a guided tour of the site can be arranged, subject to advance booking. The guide will lead you through the maze of underground rooms and galleries on a fortified site whose remains extend over five hectares. A scale model on display in the museum will show you the original state of this monument, unique in Lorraine, taking you back to the Middle Ages.
The site?s history began in the late 11th century with the construction of a square keep, and continued with the building of an enclosure for flanking fire with bows and crossbows. With the arrival of stone and then metal ball artillery in the 15th century, the château became a veritable fortress. To the north, it has two superimposed enclosures protected by a wide moat, and to the south by a shield wall enclosing the original enclosure bathed by the Moselle River.
You'll also discover a collection of cannonballs and the fire stick, ancestor of the harquebus. As you explore the site, you'll also see the drawbridge, a gatehouse tower, the guards' room and the arsenal.
Numerous events are organized on the site throughout the year, including evening events in summer, and introductory courses and workshops.
The site is open all year round from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed from December 23 to January 03 inclusive)
To book a visit, please call 06 31 15 00 36 or e-mail reservation@vieux-chatel.fr
